For the first time in ten years of inducting horses into its Hall of Fame, the NSBA is inducting the same horse in both breeding and show horse categories. Zips Chocolate Chip, a 1985 bay stallion owned by Ann and Phil Myers of Ashland, Ohio, earned this honor. The stallion is by Zippo Pine Bar and is out of Fancy Blue Chip.

Zips Chocolate Chip not only made a name for himself as an outstanding pleasure horse, earning over $37,000 as a two-year-old and a world championship as a four-year-old year, he is also one of the all time leading sires of pleasure horses.

"To think about owning him is just overwhelming," said Ann in a February 1998 Quarter Horse News article. "When I think about how famous he is it just blows my mind. We have really been lucky. It is a little like winning the lottery. To have everything fall into place like it has for Chip is very fortunate."

Zips Chocolate Chip has stood his entire career at Bob Perry Quarter Horses and where he's been managed by Joe Jeane. "Chip really stamps his babies. Most of them just look like him," Jeane says. "Horses with his conformation have the potential to do much more than just western pleasure." He believes the stallion will continue to have an impact on the horse industry for many years to come. "I think he is the best stallion Zippo Pine Bar ever sired." To date, Chips foals have earned an amazing $657,902.68.

Cleve Wells showed Zips Chocolate Chip his two- and three-year old years. "Chip was the first true show horse I rode. It was like he knew when the judges looked at him. He'd put his ears up and show," Cleve says. "I was in awe. He was doing things in the ring you can't teach a horse. He definitely deserves this honor."

The NSBA congratulates Ann and Phil Myers on the induction of Zips Chocolate Chip into the Hall of Fame.
